John and Susan Marks will discuss how Search for Common Ground is using soap operas around the world to help prevent conflict and find solutions to contentious social problems. The initial presentation will include short video clips from The Station, SFCG's 52-part dramatic TV series which is currently airing in Nigeria, from Nashe Maalo (Our Neighborhood) a 41-part children's dramatic series broadcast in Macedonia, and Seriously Joking, a 33-part series from the Palestinian territories. They will also discuss their use of radio soap operas for social change in ten countries around the world.
John Marks is President and Founder of Search for Common Ground. He is also a former Foreign Service Officer and best-selling, award-winning author.
Susan Collin Marks is Senior Vice President of Search for Common Ground and the author of Watching the Wind: Conflict Resolution During South Africa's Transition to Democracy.
